Car vs. Tree - 12/29/2001 Washington Twp. FD, Robbinsville, NJ Gold Pin Award Recipients: Deputy Chief Don Toussaint Captain Dave Horsnall Firefighter Dan Schaffener Firefighter Ed Hammerle At approximately 20:15, an alarm was transmitted for an MVA with entrapment. Engine 402 and Deputy Chief Toussaint responded and arrived at 20:18. Police on location advised that Kelly Saitta, 27, of South Brunswick, was driving on Route 539 near Sharon Road at about 8:15 p.m. when her car went airborne and struck a tree head-on. Ms. Saitta had been stabilized by the PD but was still entangled in her vehicle. After stabilizing the vehicle, WTFD put their Holmatro cutters and spreaders into service. Ms. Saitta was extricated by firefighters from the Washington Fire Department and turned over to ALS for transport to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton. Police reported that Ms. Saitta's car was destroyed and her injuries would have been more serious if not for her seat belt and air bag.
