Please understand that Holmatro manufactures
rescue equipment. We are not
software or computer experts and we do not have the ability to help diagnose
computer problems. Therefore to provide this software application, we’ve
partnered with professional software developers who have thoroughly tested this
software and its compatibility with the Windows operating systems listed. This
software has not been tested, and is not supported for use on Macintosh
operating systems.
For help running the software, the best way to get the answers that you need is
to use the built-in Help system included by our software developer. Clicking on
the Help button will provide you with all of the information that you’ll need to
use
the Rescuer’s Guide.
If you need additional assistance installing the software, please refer the
minimum system requirements and installation instructions above. Many issues
result from not following these instructions.
If you are having problems with the software
not accepting your serial number,
please see the relevant FAQ below. Again, our software developers provide the
codes and have thoroughly tested them. If the software will not accept what
you’ve entered, there is likely an error in the data you’ve entered.
If none of the above situations address your support needs, please use the
contact form. Completing the
form with as much detail as possible and a
thorough description of the problem you are experiencing will help when we
forward your inquiry to our software developer.

·
The buttons in the menu bar can be activated
with a single left click. A
double click will be counted as two single clicks and may advance you to
an unexpected location.
·
While viewing details about a specific manufacturer’s vehicle, to select a
different vehicle manufacturer, click on the “component locations” button in
the menu bar.
·
Pressing the “page up” and “page down” buttons scrolls one screen at a
time. You may also use the page up and page down keys on your
keyboard. The vertical scroll bar arrows and scroll wheel on a mouse
(if available), will scroll the document in smaller increments.
·
The Vin Decoder is an added feature that we were able to include on the
same disk as the electronic version of the Rescuer’s Guide. After entering
a complete vehicle identification number, the “Decode” button will be
activated, allowing you to click on it to obtain the make, model and year of
the vehicle. As this is a bonus program that functions independent from
the electronic version of the Holmatro® Rescuer’s Guide, there is no
link
between these two sections. Therefore, after obtaining the details from
the VIN Decoder information, you will need to click on the component
locations button and navigate to the relevant vehicle details.
·
The blue underlined text areas within the program are hyperlinks.
Positioning your pointer over the blue text will change your pointer to a
hand with the index finger extended. With this mouse pointer active, a
single click on the link will advance you to the information referenced by
that particular link.
·
The zoom feature is now activated by right clicking on the document.
A menu will pop up providing the following options:
o
Back
- navigates to the previous view. If you followed a hyperlink,
this button takes you back to the page the hyperlink is on.
o
Forward
- navigates to the next view. This is only available if
you've already clicked Back
o
First
Page - Each manufacturer is presented in its own self-
contained document. For example, while viewing details for a 2005
Mazda3, if you click this option, you will return to the model year
selection chart for all Mazda vehicles.
o
Last
Page - navigates to the last page of the current document
(ie. last Mazda vehicles page)
o
Find
- this enables a text search feature that allows you to search
the text of the current document for a specific word or term.
o
Zoom
- Click this link to zoom in on the current page. You will
zoom in more each time you select this option. To restore the page
to fit the screen, click on the “fit in window” icon in the menu bar.
o
Print
Current Page - Allows you to print the details of the current
page to your default printer.

Q: I entered my code but the software won’t accept it. Why not?
A:
If you are typing your code, please note that this and all previous versions
of the Rescuer’s Guide, do not use the letters: i, L, O or Z. If you think
your code includes one of these letters, the correct character should be
one of the closest looking numbers 0, 1 or 2.
In this version 2.0, even when entered incorrectly, the software should
automatically convert incorrect letters: "I" & "L" become the number
"1", the letter "O" becomes the number "0" (zero), and the letter "Z"
becomes the number "2". Previous versions do not auto-correct.
If you copied and pasted your code from our e-mail, you must make sure
there are no spaces, line breaks or paragraph returns in the middle of, or
at the end of your code. After pasting the code into the box, press the
backspace key until the last letter of your code is deleted, then retype that
letter. This will help make sure there are no hidden spaces or breaks at
the end of your code.
Q:
I entered the code provided on my CD, but now when I try to run the
program it is telling me a “Product CD is required and was not found.
Insert the correct product CD and press Retry”
A:
This is correct. The serial number provided with the CD requires the CD
to be present in a local CD drive to run the software. To operate the
software without the CD, or to use the update feature, the software must
be registered by clicking here. Once you
have obtained a new
code, click the update button and then click “Yes” to the question, “Would
you like to upgrade your product?” Enter the new code provided from our
reply e-mail.
Q:
Once I’ve entered a VIN into the VIN Decoder and have identified year,
make and model of the vehicle, how do I view the safety system details?
A:
The Vin Decoder is separate product provided by our publishing partner,
Mitchell International. Although this bonus feature is included on the tool
bar, it is a separate program that does not communicate with our
Rescuer’s Guide.
After using the VIN Decoder you must click the EXIT button and click on
the component locations button on the tool bar, then navigate to the
identified vehicle to view its safety systems details.
Q: When will updates/new editions be available?
A:
Unfortunately, we are not able to identify a precise schedule for publishing
updates. Holmatro and Mitchell are completely dependent on cooperation
provided by auto manufacturers worldwide.
Understandably, due to competitive market influences, many
manufacturers don't always release this confidential information prior to
the launch of new model year vehicles. This means it is likely we will
often see these vehicles on our roads and may even have to perform
extrications on them, before the safety system details are publicly
available.
With the printed book, in an attempt to make it as complete as possible,
we used to try to wait until the end of the first quarter before going to
press. This gave Mitchell adequate time to collect the new information
and prepared the book for print. Now with the ability to provide electronic
updates on the web, our plans are to publish the book and new CD
content at the beginning of each model year and provide an electronic
mid-year update, to be released after the balance of the vehicle details
have been assembled.
Q:
After clicking the link to identify the battery location, how do I view the rest
of the component locations?
A:
Click the right mouse button and select “Back” to return to the page that
contains the vehicle selection table, then click the vehicle diagram link.
Note: this and other navigational tips are
covered in more detail
above. See Navigational Tips.
Q: How do I find the emergency response guides for hybrid vehicles?
A:
These documents are published by the various vehicle manufacturers and
are listed in the Street Smarts section. When you click on the link for
a
particular vehicle you may be given two choices: 1. you can view the
included document that was available at the time of our last software
update. 2. for some manufacturers, we’ve included a link that takes you to
the vehicle manufacturer’s website. Often this link takes you directly to
the page on their site that contains the current guide, but sometimes it is
only a link to their main page, and you must navigate their site to find the
document. Some of these sites may even ask you to become a
subscribed user to obtain the latest information contained on their site.
Q:
When I right clicked & chose “Back” the program went all of the way back
to the model year selection table, not the model selection table for the
year I’d already chosen.
A:
This can happen if the battery location diagram, or component location
diagram is on the same page as the models table.
For example: if you choose Locations > Audi > 1990, then click on A or B
to view the battery diagram, the browser will move the battery diagrams to
the top of the window. However, because it appears just below the model
table, on the same page, clicking “Back” will take you to the page you
were
on previously, which is the list of model years.
Q:
When I tried to install the software, I was taken to a website where I had
to choose to download and install additional software:
[i.e. .NET Framework, PDF Viewer, Internet Explorer, etc.]
Is this normal and if so which version should I choose to install?
A:
Run setup.exe from the CD-Rom.
All of the software necessary to run the Rescuer’s Guide is included on
the CD. However, it is necessary to run the file setup.exe. If by
default your
system hides file extensions, the file may appear to be simply named
“setup.”
If you mistakenly chose to run Setup_RescuersGuide.msi, or
Setup_RescuersGuide, this installs only the Rescuer’s Guide software,
and bypasses the installation steps that automatically check for and
install the necessary supporting applications.
1 The annual update fee has not yet been determined by our publishing and software partners.
End of file.
