Rescuer's Guide Patch
The Fifth Edition of the Rescuer's Guide does not require the patch previously released for the Fourth Edition. This contents of the patch are already included on your Fifth Edition CD.
Installation Instructions
- If you will be running this software from the CD, use the installation code on the CD sleeve.
- If you want to run this software from your hard drive, you must register your software and check the box to request a hard drive installation code. After verification a new personalized code will be e-mailed to the address on your registration form.
Note: For hard drive installations, it may help if you save your registration code to a text file, so you can copy and past it when prompted to enter your code.
Before installing, deactivate any virus protection software that may be installed on your computer and close any open applications.
1. Insert the Rescuer’s Guide to Vehicle Safety Systems CD into the appropriate drive.
2. On your desktop, from the Start menu, click Run. Type d:\setup.exe and click OK (where “d” is the drive where the CD-ROM is located).
3. The Rescuer’s Guide CD requires that Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 is installed on your workstation.
- If Internet Explorer 6.0 is not currently installed on your workstation, click Yes. Your workstation will restart once the upgrade process is complete.
- After Internet Explorer 6.0 has been successfully installed, you will need to run setup again. If Internet Explorer 6.0 is already installed, skip to step 4.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions, accepting the default entries whenever possible. When prompted to install the data to your local or network drive, click No unless you have purchased a hard drive installable version or multiuser license (if so, click Yes).
5. To place a shortcut icon on your desktop, click Yes.
6. From your desktop, click the shortcut icon to start the Rescuer’s Guide CD.
7. Click Accepted to accept the License Agreement.
8. Enter a Serial Number:
-
If you have purchased the 4th Edition and previously registered your software, you will not be prompted for your serial number again.
-
If you already registered this software, enter the unique code you received in your registration confirmation.
-
If you wish to continue installation, without registering the software, enter the code provided on the back of the CD sleeve. This code allows you to run the program from the CD only.
After entering a code, click Next. You are now ready to use the Rescuer’s Guide CD.
Note: If you've already installed your Rescuer's Guide software using the code from the CD sleeve, and are now trying to reinstall to run from your hard drive, the installation should overwrite the previous registry settings, however you may find it necessary to completely uninstall the Rescuer's Guide application and begin a clean installation.
General Information
Welcome to the Holmatro® Rescuer’s Guide to Vehicle Safety Systems CD. This section contains product information and tips that will help enhance your experience with this program.
After successfully installing the CD, operating instructions and other help topics can be obtained by clicking on the help icon in the program’s menu bar.
Product Registration:
Registration of this program is optional, however to receive a hard drive installation code, any important updates or to request any technical assistance on this product, the program must be registered on-line at www.holmatro-usa.com.
The serial number included on the CD sleeve will only allow you to run the program from the CD and the CD must remain present in a local CD-Rom drive. Removing the CD during operation will result in an error. If you do not have a local CD drive, need to install the software across a network, or are interested in obtaining additional licenses to use the software on additional computers, please contact Holmatro, Inc. at 800-654-0203. (Note: please register your software before contacting us, as this step is necessary for the installable option and will help expedite the process.)
Navigation Tips:
- The buttons in the menu bar can be activated with a single left click. A double click will be counted as two single clicks and may advance you to an unexpected location.
- While viewing details about a specific manufacturer’s vehicle, pressing the
button in the menu bar will return you to the top of that manufacturer’s list of vehicles. To select a different vehicle manufacturer, click on the “component locations” button
in the menu bar.
- Pressing the “page up”
and “page down”
buttons scrolls one screen at a time. You may also use the page up and page down keys on your keyboard. The vertical scroll bar arrows and scroll wheel on a mouse (if available), will scroll the document in smaller increments.
- The Vin Decoder is an added feature that we were able to include on the same disk as the electronic version of the Rescuer’s Guide. After entering a complete vehicle identification number, the button will be activated, allowing you to click on it to obtain the make, model and year of the vehicle. As this is a bonus program that functions independent from the electronic version of the Holmatro® Rescuer’s Guide, there is no link between these two sections. Therefore, after obtaining the details from the VIN Decoder information, you will need to click on the component locations button
and navigate to the relevant vehicle details.
- The blue underlined text areas within the program are hyperlinks. Positioning your pointer over the blue text will change your pointer to a hand with the index finger extended
. With this mouse pointer active, a single click on the link will advance you to the information referenced by that particular link.
- The zoom feature is now activated by right clicking on the document. A menu will pop up providing the following options:
- Back - navigates to the previous view. If you followed a hyperlink, this button takes you back to the page the hyperlink is on.
- Forward - navigates to the next view. This is only available if you've already clicked Back
- First Page - Each manufacturer is presented in it's own self-contained document. For example, while viewing details for a 2005 Mazda3, if you click this option, you will return to the model year selection chart for all Mazda vehicles.
- Last Page - navigates to the last page of the current PDF document (ie. last Mazda vehicles page).
- Find - this enables a text search feature that allows you to search the text of the current PDF document for a specific word or term.
- Zoom - Click this link to zoom in on the current page. You will zoom in more each time you select this option. To restore the page to fit the screen, click on the “fit in window” icon
in the menu bar.
- Print Current Page - Allows you to print the details of the current page to your default printer.
Adobe Acrobat Reader
This Fifth Edition Rescuer's Guide - Software version 1.2 runs independent from Adobe Acrobat Reader. You do not need Acrobat Reader, nor do you need the patch released in December of 2005.
The CD sleeves for both versions 1.0 and 1.1 of our Rescuer's Guide application state that Acrobat Reader 5.0
must be installed on the workstation. The term "or higher..." was purposely avoided because newer versions have implemented code changes that are known to be incompatible with the previous versions of the Rescuer's Guide application.
For version 1.1 you can avoid these incompatibilities by clicking this link to
install the patch.
The Rescuer's Guide Software Version 1.0 (Rescuer's Guide Third Edition) wouldn't allow a user to install the program unless Acrobat Reader 5.0 has been successfully installed. There is no fix for this version.
